Instruments for sale
I currently have a decorated small bass viol after Henry Jaye 1624 with a string length of 67cm.
It features a double open scroll based on an instrument by Barak Norman, ribs decorated with purfling ornaments inspired by instruments by Richard Meares and a beautiful belly surround taken from an earlier bass by Henry Jaye. It is made from figured maple from the UK and spruce from France. The neck is pear wood that I cut and dried myself following the felling of a local tree. Pegs are boxwood with pear wood collars. The front is made from 7 bent staves following the original, it has a wonderful rich and full sound, praised as very even by those who have played it.
