Six string bass viol after Henry Jaye 1649

This is a six-string bass viol after Henry Jaye 1619. It is a small bodied bass (62.5cm) but with a string length of 69cm made possible by the lower bridge position. It is made with a seven piece bent front and the one pictured below has maple body and neck and birds-eye maple fingerboard and tailpiece. The very pretty rose copied form the original is pear wood and parchment and the pegs and hook bar are made from holly. Double purfling front and back as well as purfled sound holes.

I will continue to add new models as I have the opportunity so please do get in touch if you’re interested in anything that isn’t on the site.
